This was a stella year for high fashion- who wouldn’t want to be at the 2011 Academy Awards to see the magnificent sweep of stunning dresses. So, for us mere mortals Petticoat Lane has picked out a few fav’s and maybe one or two we’re not too sure about.
Amy Adams chose L’Wren Scott, a midnight-blue sequin cap-sleeved dress that set off one of the most beautiful necklaces of the night. A real show stopper and a perfect colour for her complexion.
Young Hailee Steinfeld in a nude Marchesa- dressed accordingly to her age and is a “best-dressed” in Petticoat Lanes eyes without competition. The fourteen-year-old graduated her look with a debutante-length dress and diamond-and-platinum Fred Leighton headband were youthful, elegant, and age-correct.

Halle Berry was the absolute stand out for the night, in a Marchesa tulle and nude illlusion, Halle created a moment of red-carpet splendour I haven’t seen in years. Shes the WINNER and PL’s Academy Awards night pic!
Honourable mentions: Mila Kunis in pale lavender Elie Saab- lovely structure to it- simple elegance. Hilary Swank in a swirl of Gucci ostrich feathers....gorgeous
The risk takers: Cate Blanchett went for Givenchy Haute Couture pleats in the palest lilac—this could've gone wrong on any other person. This risk paid off....class and cool.
Scarlett Johansson’s dress didn’t get good reviews at all but I thought it was edgy with wine lace Dolce & Gabbana. This dress has a cut out back- definitely a more casual look but I still think it works and she pulls it off regardless of what the critics say.
OH Dear? Worst: Helena Bonham Carter chose a Colleen Atwood velvet Edwardian bustle dress with her ever-present sunglasses. Carter is known for this and once again worst dressed list (at least she's consistent). It has vintage inspiration but I would like to see her in something more contemporary. PL-EASE Helena we love you but just once wear something half decent we are begging you!
.
only Cate could carry off that dress...stunning!
ReplyDeleteAmy Adams definitely...gorgeous
