Bright Outlook

While vibrant colours are always fashionable, holiday dressing is the perfect time to explore new colour palettes.  As soon as this Petticoat Lane customer walked through the door the colours just lit-up my day!  What a fabulous combination of vibrantly saturated colours-reminds me of an exotic island escape (Where I would like to be right now... just quietly). The bold and very impressive beach bag in a rich scrap book of shapes and tones, cute little bobbles on the side, ideal mode of transport for summer essentials. Don’t be afraid of attention grabbing scale-summer demands it!
Queensland Colour!!

These sandals are wild! More like art than slip-ons, botanical sketching with liberty print influence. This customer’s personal style is full throttle!

Neon Romance

How cute are these!! Take a clean minimal silhouette and rev it up with punchy brights or power prints. Just arrived in store are theses fabulous vintage gems from the 70’s. Highlight colour at its best with fluorescent razor-sharp yellow and a twist of psychedelic orange for a hit of vitamin C

Love love LOVE this amazing bubbling floral maxi dress. 1970’s concoction of milkshake-hued pastel blues and greens that are totally retro. Each outfit comes with its own sartorial of fascinators created by local milliner ‘The Two Mad Hatters’. Perfect for the races!

Jewel Tones

Free flying kites the inspiration behind floaty maxi-dresses in colour-soaked prints with citrus shades, pleats and solid leather belts. Fluid fabrics, breezy polite skirts, peasant dresses come in bold storytelling shapes with block saturated colour. These maxi skirts are new length at the moment, worn high-waisted and belted to achieve 90’s minimalism or 70’s bohemian.

Club Couture

Just arrived in store, this incredible psychedelic 1970's maxi skirt made from a stunning metallic illumination thread. This high-octane look is boho acid princess with opera overtones- a real theatrical feel dont you think?
We love the freedom to clash textures and patterns in rich colours, then top it all off with big-personality accessories and oversized rings. Maximalism works best with a load up on metallic brocades, animal prints and jewels. Shimming, glamorous embellishments are dream like and lots of fun!

Have a look at this amazing material...true decadence! We've paired this vintage skirt with a simple black glittered cotton top and a contemporary Mimco necklace. Also, this would look fabulous with a dark wash denim vest. It's amazing how just a touch of metallic can give the basic denim a new-season twist.

Ladylike Luxe

Snapped out shopping in the City was this gorgeous young lady. Floral pastels are delicate and light; grounded with a touch of black. Really love the soft hues, relaxed shape through the hem, corset feel to the bust and heels for a very Marie Antoinette inspiration. This summer style is simple, pretty and fun!

Sunday Speaks Volumes

Townsville's Mall is almost finished.... Hurrah! The markets are a hive of activity and there’s lots of fabulous fashions to spot with that cheeky Nth Qld feel. Peasant style maxi skirts that billow while walking are on trend- trading that minimal look for a more cocooned silhouette.  Really love the over sized bag, aviator sunnies and ballerina slip ons. Causal, comfortable with urban bohemian edge. Can’t forget the coffee on the go either!

Serene watercolours are cool and fresh with this urban vibe outfit. A Petticoat Lane customer was snapped wearing this ultra-chic slip dress with a jungle print waist bag.  We love the effortless style combined with earthy neutral heels, finished with pretty-pink sugar coated nails and blue retro sunnies. Love it!

Hooked On Classics

The likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller have made it almost mandatory for any self-respecting fashionista to have a few "heirloom" pieces hanging in their closets to mix and match with current styles. But where vintage really wins out is in the ethical and affordability stakes, reducing your carbon footprint and giving you more quality for your dollar-think of it as affordable bespoke. This stunning piece arrived in store yesterday. It’s a mint condition 60’s pleated cotton summer dress by the label Ecstasy.
Golden rule of vintage- you must fall in love with the piece, choose well and everyone will ask where it came from. Not only that, you might unearth a piece that will retain, and possibly increase, in value over the years. Best of all, vintage shopping is full of surprises- it’s sartorial potluck and a good way to discover fashion’s history.
Petticoat Lane’s gem find!
